TomTom Model(s)
go discover
Hi all.
I have a 7inch Go Superior and I am having live traffic issues.
I use my device all day for work reasons and near enough every day i get no live traffic after the device comes out of sleep mode.
I look at my phones bluetooth settings and it shows as connected and the device shows the same but all I get is the X showing no traffic.
If I perform a reboot traffic then works fine for a while until the same thing happens either later the same day or the following day.
Obviously it's totally annoying and takes times to keep rebooting it to get it to work.

Any help greatly appreciated

You don't say whether you are using the MyDrive app on your phone for traffic, or just using BT tethering on your phone to receive data from TomTom. For what it's worth, BT connections on iPhones are also a bit more problematic.

My own preference is to set up my phone as a WiFi hot spot and let my TomTom get its traffic that way. Very reliable.

sorry i should have said that I am using a bluetooth connection but will try going down the hotspot route and see if it is anymore reliable.
I take it I have to delete the connection settings and then just use a hotspot.
I have a samsung galaxy fold 5 so not an iphone although my previous go discover used my iphone via bluetooth and it was fine.
thanks for your help and I'll give that hotspot a try tomorrow.

To clarify, BT can be used either with the MyDrive App (if your carrier doesn't provide tethering/hotspot, or charges a bundle for it) or for BT tethering/hotspot. Not sure which you were doing.

But as noted, WiFi has been rock solid for me. Let me know how you get on with that.

I have no problem with tethering so that should be ok to use but at the minute I have just used a BT connection and it's not stable at all but will try that tomorrow and post on here the results.

Cheers for your help

just a quick heads up about my issue.
I have now got my device connected via a hot spot and all day Monday it behaved itself so maybe it's all sorted.
Will keep using it like that and see how it goes.

Cheers for all your help

I was wondering how you are getting along with connecting your Superior via a hot spot, is it still working ok.
I have not got around to trying mine out using my phone yet, so I am looking for some advice.
, My previous TomTom had traffic and alerts built into it.

To be honest it is still not working very well and occasionally I still have to do a complete reboot to get traffic to work.
Once again it shows connected on both the device and my phone but no traffic until the reboot

Sorry to hear you are still having problems, hopefully I will get to try mine out in a couple of weeks time.
Does it use much data when in use, as I tend to use mine a lot when I am in France.

No it uses hardly any data to be fair but hope your device behaves better than mine

Mine was exactly the same until I found that if something else is using the Blutooth, my wife's phone for example via Android Auto, then TT doesn't see mine anymore. It appears to need unique access.

mine is connected to 2 other thins apart from my satnav and one is my Samsung watch and the other is my vans music system....might delete the van and see if that helps

I have been trying out my new satnav over the last few days, connecting it to my phone via a hotspot. My query is, how do I know If it’s working correctly, and do I have to connect it to a specific app on my Iphone for it to work?

If you are using your phone's 'hot spot' capability, then there's no need for any additional app on your phone. You will know it is working if you're seeing traffic data. You can also tell this if there's a pair of little cars without an "X" through them. You want two little cars with no X. The X indicates no traffic data. It takes a few moments until your device picks up this data after you turn it on and it connects to your phone.

Thank you for the information it’s been very helpful. Unfortunately I won’t be travelling any long distances for a few months, but will give it a try out locally to see what happens.

You should see the cars without the X even if there is no traffic in your area.
You can also zoom out a bit and look around a bit wider area to see what might be happening elsewhere. I'm 50 miles from Denver, but can see all of its (ugh) traffic easily from where I am.
