Signal only when connected to PC

I have a One V3. A month ago it wouldn't turn on and today I got the "repaired" one back.

It turns on fine.. but it won't find a signal when not connected to the computer. The battery is fully charged.

If I connect it to the computer, go into the software and "operate my device" .. it finds my location no problem with 11 satellites.. and it's accurate to where I am.

However in the backyard, nothing. "Waiting for valid GPS signal".

I don't have the opportunity to try it with the car charger, but still it should work without it..

I have all the updates installed - the same behaviour happened before I updated it from 7.something to 8.010 now.

any ideas?

thanks

Check your computer here: C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\ephemeris\

Use Explorer and see what's in the ephemeris folder. That's where the gpsquickfix files get dl to prior to instalation. See how old your most recent file is.

In fact, you can delete all files in the folder (not the folder though), connect to Home and you should be offered the newest gspfix file.

my oldest folder/file is QuickGPSfix-3 from July 9 2008

I deleted them all, did an update and it did a gpsquickfix update but it still doesn't work :(

Can you try to navigate to a city and ensure the city is in the Canada map, Montreal, for example.

Other than that and leaving it on and by an open unobstructed window for hours, I don't know what else to suggest (you did try a pin reset, right?) other than calling Support.

Try the pin reset.

turn off the device.

take device outside with clear view of sky.
