A factory reset deletes all your custom settings.......... (known as a HARD reset)
A reset on the bottom will only cause the time to be reset. It's like a reboot of the computer. (known as a SOFT reset)
A soft reset is suggested more frequently than a hard when there are issues with the unit, like not being recognized as an external drive when getting connected to a computer).
Giving the reset hole a stab with a paperclip simply shuts the device down fully and forces the unit to restart and load the application from the memory card, when you power the device off it isn't actually fully off but its simply gone to sleep, the reset hole performs a full power off/ re-load, using this will not eraze any settings or data on the device.
The restore Factory Defaults will eraze your settings for POI warnings, recent destinations and you Home location, this will put the device back to how it behaved when you first switched it on - Mike
