Are there other maps that one can use with these units other than what TomTopm puts out..?

No. As a matter of fact, let's say 2 people have the same TomTom units. Person A has NA maps and Western Europe maps. Person B has only NA maps. Person A makes a copy of WE map and puts it on a SD card and gives it to person B. Person B would find the TomTom WE map would NOT work in his unit!

To put it another way.....Printer manufacturers make their money on supplies (ink cartridges), not the printer unit; razor companies make their money on the cartridges, not the razor. Same with GPS manufacturers.

I am totally not surprised...we do same thing with Plasma consumables on our CNC Cutting Tables. Sell the machine at just over cost and get the consumables....offer Torch for Life on condition they buy OEM.

Yup been there and stil doing that.!
