new user having problems at start up

I received the xxl 550 as a gift today. I have it attached to my laptop via usb. It has been charging for approx. 1.5 hours and still only opens to the screen showing a picture of the device.

Is it normal for it to now be responsive until its fully charged?

Disconnect it from your computer and press and hold the on/ off button until the device reboots with a drum roll it should then start up correctly - Mike
