I just bought myself a new Tomtom GO 6100 today at a decent price from my local branch of Halfords as they had it advertised for £219.99 instead of £289.99 and honoured the price with no quibble.
My car has a built in Satnav but it is not very good and is constantly freezing on me and the only way to get it going again is to switch off the ignition but as you can imagine that's not very convenient.

I am going to the Lake District tomorrow for a few days so it will be a good test for it too.

Yes, I agree that a rolling restart of the vehicle to get the OEM satnav rebooted is probably NOT the best plan!
Hope you have fun with the 6100. Let us know what you think when you return.

OK back from my travels with the 6100.
Overall i am quite impressed, the device seems to take a bit of time to boot up and is a bit longer than i expected for a modern device like this but not really an issue as such.
The one thing that annoyed me is that i visited a place and then set it to take us home and it guided us along a road for 11 miles then decided it needed to take us back along the same road again in the opposite direction as indeed the cars built in sat nav did too.
Strange considering the road was not a dead end and continued to where ever.
The Live Traffic worked well and was accurate which is always a good thing really so i am well pleased with it so far.

Would be interested to know what bit of road that was that created the u-turn, and also whether you can identify whose satnav code is running in your OEM unit (that last bit is not necessarily easy, I know).
