The one thing I find annoying is the way the iOS app mispronounces road and place names. Examples are Worth get’s pronounced Wer-eth, North becomes Nor-eth and Poplars becomes Poppers.

I wonder how long before they fix this?

Have you tried an alternate voice, if available? On Android, we can select from either TT or system voices.

Only computer voice (Serena in my case for the UK) and recorded voices that can't read out signposts, street names etc are available. Not able to switch to another TTS system.

Hmm.. was hoping Samantha was available to check as an alternative.

Samantha is there so I'll give that a try, would prefer an English-accented voice if I'm honest but it will be interesting to see if there is any difference in the pronunciation

Yes, what I'm attempting to establish is whether there's an issue with the voice, something embedded in the map data, or the TTS itself. Let me know how Sam treats you.

This is a longstanding problem that has been apparent for the last couple of years. There were constant complaints on the official TomTom discussion forums. If they hadn't removed the forums we could have checked when this problem was first reported.
Either TomTom think there isn't a problem or they acknowledge the problem but can't be bothered to fix it or it's incredibly difficult to fix it.

"Serena" was fine in the old Tomtom app. The "R" problem suddenly occurred about two/three years ago in the Go app (at least in iOS) When is TomTom going to fix this? I find "Serena" to be the clearest voice for directions and don't wish to use a US voice. There are lots of free satnav apps out there that don't have speech impediments. This has been discussed in the TomTom forums for years, but nothing seems to be done about it. For a paid app, this problem has been going on for far too long.

Have used TomTom devices for years. Last one the 6200 was superb, I still have it. However, as I have a fancy newer car, I thought I'd try the app again, with CarPlay. Works great (mostly). But came across the "R" pronounciation, which is just hilarious at times, it's so bad. Found this forum thread about it and can't believe it's been around for 2 years or more. TomTom support were always pretty useless I found, never keen to fix stuff. Still a great app, but I've changed the voice to one of the Irish ladies. However, I think I've lost the reading out of road names, which is a shame, as it's useful sometimes. Is Serena the only one who can read the street names out?

There are 2 types of voices. Computer based or Recorded. As you could not record all the street names etc if you want Road Names etc then you must select a Computer based voice such as Serena (UK) or Samantha (USA) for example. If you look at the list of available voices that you could download and add to your available list the Voice type is indicated against each one.

Thx. Still bizarre that the 6200 has a computer voice that gets the right pronunciation 99% of the time, yet the app cannot get it's R right, ever! Just odd.
