TomTom Model(s)
NB1, Rider 550
I have recently bought a Mazda from 2013 with the NB1 navigation system. I would like to make use of the TomTom live services, which require a working cellular connection.
However, when I look a the status page, the sim is not connected to any network.
Can this be fixed somehow? I know it is an older system, it would be very nice if it would work!

if the GPS remains without a subscription, your SIM card is deactivated and it is no longer possible to respond.

Thanks for the reply! Is it possible to somehow re-activate the sim card? I have a Live services subscription for my Rider, which I presume should work with the NB1 as well.

no it is not possible to be reactive. the subscription to Live services for your Rider cannot work on the NB 1

That is too bad. Was hoping the TomTom would be a little more flexible.
Thanks for the clarification.

A follow up for others who may have a similar issue; after talking to TomTom support, they where able to activate Live services, and even throw in a month free subscriptions. I did have to update the app and map to the latest versions using TomTom home. But now, all is working.

It is my understanding that the previous owner never activated Live services or updated the map. As @Willy875 mentioned above, the services for the Rider (and probably also the Go series) are different and cannot be used with the NB1.

All in all, very happy with the results, and kudos to TomTom for their excellent support!

👍 You were lucky if Tomtom was willing to reactivate your SIM card
Perhaps the difference is that if the services were never activated by the previous owner then @ernstv was merely activating them rather than asking to reactivate. Subtle difference, I know, but computers can be dumb sometimes

Hello,
I have roughly the same issue.
Eventhough, I ordered and payed for the NB1 live a month ago, the Live is still not fonctionnal, and it's absolutely impossible to contact tomtom : no adress mail, no phone number ?

If your NB1 has remained without a subscription for 3 years, your SIM card is automatically deactivated.

Contact Tomtom customer service to see if the Sim is disabled.

Thank you very much, but, despite of the label " submit a request" nothing is possible, impossible to write, and no adress mail is available to contact the customer service !!!

I think it's a shame to buy a car with GPS and not get the first free map update or software updates.

I’ve been writing to TomTom about getting the live services to my Mazda NB1, and although the support has been slow to reply, they finally said that they had reactivated my device’s SIM card. However, after a factory reset and the soft reset, the connection status stays at “not connected”, so it’s unlikely my unit’s ever going to be able to get live services.

Still, I reported my findings to TomTom, but decided to write here as well so that anyone else struggling with their Mazda NB1 live services can read my experiences on this as well.

TT advised me to update the sw to the latest version, and then perform a factory reset. After that, it took a day or two and then everything worked.
The only issue I have now is that I also updated the map to the latest version, and since then, when navigating long routes, the device reboots now and then. I think it has to do with the increased map size, and possibly, the use of a non-TomTom certified sd card. I now use the TomTom app on my android device for long trips, and that works very well.
Good luck!
