Map Share VS Map Update

Sorry in advance for the newbie question, but what is the difference?

I thought in TThome, there is an option for only approved updates. Aren't these some of the changes that are in the map update anyway?

There is a lot of chatter on here about maps and subscriptions, so does Map Share really do anything for us?

Maqpshares are changes to an existing map whereas a map subscription is the purchasing of 4 new maps over the next 12 months at a specific price.

But, mapshares aren't capable of adding new roads to an existing map.
