Hi!

Just like others I've read, I was not a usual visitor to Tomtom's discussion forum but now that I had some minor trouble with my GO60, I just found out it's gone. Just another disappointment from Tomtom.

Well, at least I've found there's this place and it looks nice so I've registered and it would be great if I could find some help. Who knows if this was already solved at the closed forum, but I haven't found a solution here. Sorry if I missed it. Also, I don't know if this is the right place to ask as I haven't seen anywhere particularly fit for it.

So, my problem is easy to describe: do you know how when you have your device plugged in (in the car) its screen is brighter than when it's not plugged? Well, mine does just the opposite. It's not that it's never bright, it's only bright if I unplugg it and darker if plugged in back again. Note this has nothing to do with "night mode".

It happened a while ago but, I can't remember how, it worked fine again. But now it's doing it again and I can't find how to fix it.

I have just changes the USB port as it was not working properly (more often than not it lost its connection) but it's still happening.

Any ideas? Thank you very, very much in advance.

All Tomtom devices are meant to be connected to a car cig outlet, not a usb port in the vehicle. They don't provide enough power to both charge the gps sufficiently and make the unit function.

Oh, welcome to TTF!

Thank you, but that is what is going on here, at least not that way.

My TomTom GO60 was a gift to me back in late 2014. My car was "born" in 2003, so it has no USB ports of its own, nor have I changed the radio and installes one with a USB port. I'm using the cig port with the original plug (whatever the name) that came with the device. The cable is not original as the one that came in the box stopped working properly. This is the third or fourth I'm using.

I would have to find a way to check it out with my polymeter, but same plug, different cable (a USB-C is needed) charges my phone pretty quickly so I'm guessing it's not a lavk of power unless the cable is going wrong.

But, again, I'm not thinking of a lack of power from the cig port because of the described behaviour. It's like a laptop going into "energy savings mode" when plugged and back at full brightness when working out of its battery only.

I should mention the battery is maybe dead or so. I mean, no matter how long I plug the device in the car (the few times I use it, it may be easy 20-24 hours straight (except stops, of course)) as soon as I unplug it, it says there is little charge left and soon it turns off.

However, this is something that has been happening for years (I use it only a few tiles a year, not even once a month) and it doesn't bother me as I always use it in my car and, also, it has happened since way, way before this recent (in the last year or so) behaviour.

I got it back yesterday from the repair shop where they change the USB port as it wasn't working properly (it was really hard to make it stay connected to the cable, tried with several cables) and I still have to check out if maybe the guy did something for the battery to stay longer (maybe charged with a phone charger instead of a usb port or whatever) but the behaviour is the same: if left unplugged, the screen is at the right brightness. If plugged back in, it goes "darker", just like the screen of some phones go darker after a while if you don't use it before going completely dark, only my device doesn't thankfully go black.

Thank you again. Back in the day I found the forum to be crowded with people willong to help and it seems to be the case here as well.

Thank you.

Hi again:

I got to this forum so I could try and find an anwer to the problem I had, as it's been a few months already (mind you, I've used less than once a month I should say) and next week I'm having quite the journey around places I've never been to. And yes, I sayd "had" because today, just a few hours after starting this thread, my GO60 decided to behave as normal.

I just don't know why, but if it works, let's keep it that way.

Thank you very much.
