Go Discover
Hi,

Just bought a TOMTOM GO Discover 7 and running into some connection issues with my PC (Windows 11). I do like to make a backup and check what is on my device and I do read I have two options/programs TOMTOM Home & My Drive.

- On my computer itself I do not see my Go Discover as a USB device anymore (my old TOMTOM was shown as USB device)
- TOMTOM home V2.21 app doens't reconize/show my device.
- TOMTOM My drive app does show my Go Discover, but I have the feeling the connections is not 100%. For example when I click on my content I see the voices which are installed on it. When I try to uninstall a voice that I do not use (for example Czech) I a window with update insctructions and after pressing 2x I got it. I see a kind of reset in TOMTOM My drive and he has to "connect" to my device again. Nothing is uninstalled or deleted. This gives me a signal that there is not a good connection with my device.

- I also think backup can oply be made thru tomtom home?
- I also did follow all TOMTOM instructions about conncetions problems (reset device, update drivers in device manager at network adapters (Remote NDIS Compatible Device)
- Did try to conncet it to my other computer (Windows 10) with same results. So it doens't look like a Windows 10 and 11 issues)

Can somebody give me advise what the GO Discover should be able to connect to (to make a backup and uninstall voices)?

Welcome to TomTomForums.
TomTom HOME cannot be used with your device. It is for 9+ years old devices.

Someone with a GO Discover should be replying to you.

Thanks Arno,

That explains indeed why TomTom home doesn’t show my device. So that will leave TomTom My drive app to work with.

-How dow you make a backup of your device in My drive connect?
-How do you install/uninstall voices thru My Drive connect? I can see it, but whas I wrote down after clicking on uninstall I get a kind of rediscover from my device in TomTom MyDrive connect (looks a bit like restart and than the device connects again) but nothing is uninstalled.
-Can somebody with a Discover tell me if you see something with my MAPS in Mydrive connect. In my content I only have a part with updates (is up to date so no new) and voices. Nothing to see about my maps on my device.

I do have some other user-device questions which I will ask another time. There is a new world opening (or closing) since I am coming from a very old TomTom GO 930 with POI’s (.ov files) which died a few weeks ago.

Ah, the GO 930, best GPS I ever owned. Best feature was the Bluetooth remote control. I, except for testing, never planned routes, just used City Centres and before getting there picked the next one via BT, with my hand in my lap.
GO Live 1535 as second choice.

On GO Discover it is not possible to make a backup all the backups found on the Tomtom servers
If there is a problem with a map, you can download it again for free.

On GO Discover it is not possible to add POIs in ov2

TomTom is now suffering from severe NIH syndrome so now there is very limited personalisation of any of their new devices

As has been explained, the means of connection for you will be MyDrive Connect, not TomTom Home.

Two big things we used to need to back up in the old days are maps and favorites. This is no longer necessary with the Discover. Maps are available to add/delete at will, and favorites get backed up into the TomTom cloud server. Since there isn't any custom POI support for these devices, there's nothing to be backed up there.

As for voices, yes, MyDrive Connect is used to add/delete new voices, and these can be managed readily there (at the bottom of the MYCONTENT tab page).

I have many favourites stored as ov2 in my computer, I bought Discover 7, if my favourites cannot be restored, the Discover 7 will go back to amazon

I've just recently ordered and installed new batteries for my GO620 and two TomTom Bridge devices, all of which support *.ov2 files.

Thank you, will do or find a new way, apple car play or Garmin

Imagine you buy a new PC but Microsoft tells you this PC doesn't recognise any data from your old PC so you have to delete all your old data and start new data and we will store it in the cloud, what would you do?

Keep my old computer (and in this case, freshen it up with new battery!)
