Does anyone know if there is a way to get more than 48 favorites? Or any novel way to get around the 48 restriction?

Rather than using favourites and its limitations, many create a custom poi file that can contain essentially a limitless number of points.

And, if you call it something like _my_Favourites.ov2 (notice the _ preceding the my?), then the category will 'float' to the top of the list of manage poi categories for showing on a map.
