Backing up Favorites

I recently updated my main map file and found out all my Favorites were erased... I didn't realize they were stored in the map file.

is there a way to back up just my favorites, without using the 'backup whole device' option from within TomTom Home?

Yep. All your favourites, recent destinations, etc. are in a file called mapsettings.cfg in your map folder. Just backup that file somewhere. Also, if you upgrade your map, you'll want to copy over that file to the new map folder to get them back there, too.
