XL330 Map Help for Newbie

I have an XL 330 which I received as a Christmas gift and it's worked well. I'm planning a trip to Italy and wanted to use the unit but I don't have the memory to add the Italian Map. Do I have to wipe out the North American Map to do this? If so, how do I retrieve it later. The Italian map is approx 268Mb and I can't clear that much space.

Second though was to buy an XL 330S, but I'm confused. Some sites show the 330S as having 2 GB memory and other show it as 1 GB, same as the 330. When I check at the store, they can't tell me and the TomTom Site doesn't show anything.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

The 330S has 1 gig storage, the 340 has 2.

You would copy the existing map folder to your computer. Then delete it from the unit. Purchase the desired map for your unit and install. When you want to switch, copy that map folder to the computer, delete from unit and copy back the original.
