I had a lovely message pop-up on my TomTom GO Premium screen about a week ago saying: “Thank you very much for buying this product, but unfortunately, you’ve had it too good for far too long and we are shutting the SIM down on your device. Thanks again and use your own data, ciao for now.”😜

Well actually no, it didn’t, but here is what did pop up:

Your device’s built-in SIM support is ending. Connect via
Bluetooth to maintain services. Scan to learn more.

This week, the built in SIM has not recieved any traffic/camera data - just a weeks notice for me and NO emails about it either.
Now, the majority of people are aware that the 2G signal has or is being phased out, but the TomTom devices in the UK had Vodafone SIM’s and their website states that the 2G phased approach switch off will occur in spring 2030.
So as I see it - another TT money saving exercise.

My GO 5100’s SIM is still currently receiving data and when that gets shut down, there is no Bluetooth or WiFi built in to save it. I hope that device doesn’t get an early grave. We’ll see and I’ll update once that occurs.

In my opinion, TomTom deactivates all SIM cards so that all customers are on an equal footing across all countries.

That is just my personal opinion.

So why aren't the SIM cards in the GO 5100 units being deactivated? My GO 5100 still works perfectly. I haven't received any notification from TT, either.
However, my GO 5200 was deactivated a long time ago.

I have a GO 5000—which is based on exactly the same platform as your GO 5100—and my SIM card was indeed deactivated.

I also mentioned in my message that this is a personal opinion.

Sorry, that was a typo on my part. I have a GO5000 too, not a GO5100.
The SIM on my GO5000 was deactivated as well, but after I complained, they reactivated it immediately and apologized. With my GO5200, however, they’ve been completely stubborn!
