TomTom Model(s)
GO 5200
I have received an email saying that the sim in my Go 5200 will no longer be supported.
i do not have a smartphone to connect to the TomTom and would like to know whether I will still be able to use the Tom Tom for navigation purposes.

Ignore this message, this is a Tomtom error.
As long as 2G is available in your country, the SIM card cannot be deactivated.

We are talking about it here: https://www.tomtomforums.com/threads/built-in-sim-cards.34276/page-2#post-208609

Tom Tom have said they need to repair the sim slot for a cost of 105€ and that this would allow the Tom Tom to continue to operate as at present.
i am a bit confused as they have said the Sim will no longer be supported.
Anyone had this problem and been offered a repair?

If your GPS is not receiving traffic, it is your SIM card that is deactivated.
Ask Tomtom to reactivate it.
Tomtom is currently doing everything it can to encourage people to buy a new GPS without a SIM card.

I have two TT6200 and since the last update they are taking ages to find a sat signal, its either about 5 miles or 5 to 8 mins to find a signal, it was working just fine before the update.

I suggested to TT that their dirty tricks dept was at work making it go slow first, and then withdraw support altogether I assume that the idea is to make you but a new one, a bit like Apple with phones.

I was offered the repair at over 100 euro each but as I have two of the TT6200 and both started with the same problem after the update I decided not to bother with the repair and just wait for a signal.

They either have a problem with the last update or its intentional however a new one I will not be buying, shame because this model is the best they ever made

I am very p !$$Ed off about this. I bought devices that came with LIFETIME map updates, traffic and Speed cameras. It seems that Tomtom are renaging on this and are moving towards a subscription model. I expect them to keep the sim support going until my device dies, or, more likely, they brick it with a software update.

Even if you connect your GO to your phone, the maps, traffic and speed cameras remain for life.

Where do you see in any of the text received from TomTom that map updates and traffic aren't going to be supplied to you without a subscription? (None of those depend upon cellular connections.)

Screen shots, please.

So, what does disabling the SIM actually mean?
Map, charging point and Speed Camera Updates by wifi only?
Will Live traffic still function?

The SIM card allows you to be connected to the Tomtom server at all times.
If the SIM card is disconnected
For traffic if you connect your GPS to your phone On average, driving one hour a day at peak times, you will use about 7 MB of data per month.

For updates of maps, charging points and speed cameras, no worries, you will always have the updates for free.

Yes. Your situation will be no different than it has been in other parts of the world where the cellular functionality was never offered at all. The only difference between a 6200 and a 620 is the cellular service function of the 6200.

All data services that were being received over cellular connection can also be continued by allowing the TomTom to use the phone as the cellular connection (hot spot / tethering).

So, does that mean that when I am travelling I will have to use my phone data on roaming tariff instead of the "free" access that I previously enjoyed as part of a " lifetime, worldwide" purchase to receive live traffic information?

Yes, you will need to be connected to your phone to have traffic on your GPS
Traffic is for life, however the SIM card installed on your GPS is not for life.

Nowhere on any Tomtom information, available at time of purchase, says that the "Lifetime" services are not really lifetime as they depend on an inbuilt sim that they can discontinue at any time. Disgraceful!
