Having just updated the various maps on my Go Basic set me thinking.

If the Europe map contains all the information contained in the individual country maps what is the purpose of the smaller maps?

Do the individual country maps contain more detail than the full Europe map?

And finally which is the better map to use Europe, or the country I am in at the time?

The maps of each country have the same details as the Europe map.

With a Europe map you can plan your route to each country without interruption.

If you have the United Kingdom card and the France card installed, you will not be able to plan your United Kingdom to France route.

If you only install the United Kingdom map this allows you to save memory on your GPS.

Thanks Willy.

If The Europe map contains the same detail then it could be used for a single country journey. Hence why would you load the individual country maps as well as Europe?

If you install the Europe map you do not need to install the other countries additionally.

Thanks. Need to do some clearing out. Currently I have:
Europe
UK etc
Italy
Austria, Germany and Switzerland
France

All the non UK ones due to holidays in those countries.

If you have more free memory does it calculate quicker?

Then there is no advantage in freeing up memory?
The only reason to free up memory is if you wish to load yet more maps and they won't all fit. For example, you can't fit all of Europe and North America in the 16GB available. But if you wanted to keep your UK map long enough to get to the airport, then tour all of North America, you could retain just the UK and NA maps. One of the added (not subtracted) features of the current generations of TT devices is the ability to readily add and delete maps. Much less hassle than the old days where they had to be purchased and shuffled on the owner's computer.
