Tomtom Rider 550 sd card use.

So my rider is set up SD card installed and formatted to except routes so I think.
In the unit settings it shows that the card is installed and formatted, when I connect the 550 to my windows 11 laptop in "import mode" the SD card shows in the directory.
The idea was to store .itn routes on the SD card so if away from the laptop I could call up routes as I need them from the SD card.
I have tried to copy /paste and drag and drop .itn files from the download section of the laptop but when I explore the drive there is only the files that I presume the format deposits for handling the files.
obviously I'm doing something wrong or expecting too much but that's how I believed it would work.
I'm not overly techy but give it a go.
any help greatly received.

Did you format the SD card to store maps or routes?

Routes I think but really unsure, I have tried removing sd card and re installing it to get the option back up to check but it just says sd card already formatted.

Once you have inserted the SD card, you are presented with two options:
The first option is for installing maps, and the second is for installing routes.
If neither option appears, reset the device to factory settings.

I did a factory reset took the card out replaced it and went to settings/system/format memory card, I only got one option to format and after doing it said the card was formatted and ready to store tomtom maps routes and any other tomtom related files.
on exploring the Container storage there are three folders, common, device, lost & found and two DAT files rsid and version is this what should be there?
I even attempted to create a file for .itn in the container storage but it said "Error creating folder" The new folder could not be created in this location.
The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.
