Did TomTom discontinue the Rider 550? On the US shopping web site it says "no longer available"...

It looks like TomTom is not selling any new GPS units directly in the USA. The few listed on Amazon are either refurbished or shipping from the UK or Italy.

That is correct. Like many companies, TomTom found it easier to use Amazon as their distribution mechanism in the US, and has dropped direct sales from their own web site altogether. TomTom has their own storefront on Amazon, but it looks like the channel still is currently empty inventory except for a few of the Expert (truck) models.
