If you were getting lots of red bits around the car, the tricks I've found out (the hard way) are:
1. Crop and scale the image down to the right size (80x80 pixel) BEFORE adding the red border, and
2. Turn off any "feathering" AND/OR "anti-aliasing" in your paint program before drawing the red border and then filling the rest with red.
If you don't do both of those, you end up with lots of "nearly-red" pixels that show up as red in the end result.
