.mac files ?? are these Mapshare updates?

I have a tonne of new .mac files in the root directory of the TomTom SD card. I assume these are these Mapshare updates? They are from all over the world, different regions etc. and they are all dated 1/2/2002..? seems strange. Anyone else have these?

It's interesting how TomTom abuses the accepted file extension names. A .mac file generally means MacPaint image. Their voice files are all .chk, which generally means "Recovered File Fragment."

Trying to confuse the reverse engineers?

The problem is that there is no really accepted clearing house for extensions so overlap is going to happen. There is nothing that says they can't go to a 4 character extension though.

So the answer to my question is...? are they MapShare updates..? and why are they all dated 1/2/2002...?

They are some how related to the maps on the tomtom. My One came with quite a few as well. If you run the clear flash tool from tomtom it will clear the ones you do not need.

Did you buy the unit new or used? Those .mac files are related to the maps that were installed on the device.

bought it new...I have only noticed them since I upgraded to the new 7.10 maps. I will try the flash tool...
