After the major TomTom synchronisation outage a few weeks ago, I have been doing some planning for an upcoming road trip.
I always like to use the plan.tomtom.com route planner for planning, as it is easier to use a computer than the TomTom GO Expert app on a phone.
For several years now there has been a lot of forum comment about how when using co-ordinates to search for a place, the web planner would only go to a place that is already in the database. That is, it was not possible to save the exact location of a place that was on a dirt track out the back of nowhere.
But now it seems that has been rectified, and I have found it possible to save out of the way places to My Places on the website route planner and these places sync to the TomTom GO app. These out of the way places can be created and saved as My Places by different methods.
1. Get co-ordinates from Google Maps, then on the TomTom website route planner enter the co-ordinates into the "Search for place" box and press return. Don't select any of the pull down options. Click the hollow star, change the description if desired, then Save. The saved place stays put and doesn't move like it used to in the past.
2. if working directly on the website route planner, right click (control click) on a place, click the hollow star and proceed as before.
Another thing I have noticed is when deleting a My Place. Previously, if a place was created on the website route planner, it could only be deleted on the planner and could not be deleted on the TomTom GO phone app. And previously only places created and saved on the phone app could be deleted on the phone. But now, places created and saved on the website planner, and synced to the GO app, can be deleted on the GO app, and they also delete from the My Places list on the website planner.
