Would like to say hello to every one ... !!!
Have a quick question as well at the same time - How do I upgrade my Tomtom XL which I bought a couple of years ago ... ?

I have just got a file from my friend which is .dat file and it is about 1.6 GB in size ... How do I upload this to my Tomtom North America ?

Welcome to TTF. You cannot share maps between devices as they are locked to the device first installed upon, so forget that.

The good news is there is now a Canadian map store in operation and new maps are up to 40% off. So a current (840) map for your model will be about $54 Canadian on sale.

Sorry, I'm not giving full information:

Connect your unit to Home, accept an updated application if there is one and install it.

Then (if you are interested in the new map) in Home go to Add Maps and proceed from there.

Just curious

If I buy a file NA Maps 8.40 from Best Buy or Walmart or let's say any store then how do I upload it ...Is there anything that I have to do before I load that to tomtom or just simply connect and go ???

You can only buy the map using TomTom home. It's not sold at a retail store.
