Have a look at the device using Windows explorer and is there a LoquendoTTS or loqendotts folder on the device, if there is right click it and select properties, what is the folder size?
The 910 did have TTS when new, in fact the TTS files took up a huge 4GB of data storage on the 20GB Hard Drive! If you don't have a copy of these files you will have to find another TomTom 910 owner who is willing to burn the LoquendoTTS folder to a DVD disk for you to install on your device.
As for getting at the device from the PC, you really do need the desktop docking cradle, it is possible to mess around using Bluetooth to communicate with the device once its set up, but to set it up requires access from the PC to start with so thats not much use - Mike
