Driving to walking?

Hey, all,

Continue to plan a trip to Santa Barbara, CA where the main street (State St.) hold most of the shops we'll be looking at and restaurants (okay... and pubs). It seems the TT1 can give you walking directions. My question:

How to you switch from driving to walking directions?

I see that, in preferences, you can set the TT to prompt you for your desire, but I was hoping I could switch on-the-fly.

Select Find alternative then select calcualate alternative.
The menu will pop up from there.

Sorry for the confusion. Leaving it at always ask is great.
The option I mention if you already had set a route with fastest as the selection and you want to change that option, then you would do what I mentioned above.
