Tom Tom Go Camper max 7
I have bought a new Tom Tom Camper Max 7 and reading the manual, it talks about a Gen 2 version. How do I find out if my device is Gen 2? Thanks.

My best guess .. serial number.

The original release of the Camper Max 7" had a serial that started with ZW, but a later release with an updated GPS chip (supply chain issue IIRC) started with YC. Other than that, there were no hardware differences.

That could be what they're referencing, but some context would help. What does your manual say about "Gen 2"?

According to the User Manual there is no difference between the Tomtom GO Camper Max and the Camper Max 2nd Gen

Thanks for the replies both.
Mine is a YC prefix serial number so I am hoping it is a 2nd Gen.
I have sent a message to Tom Tom support asking them the question.
My manual just keeps referring as follows:
TomTom GO CAMPER MAX / CAMPER MAX 2nd GEN User Manual
So it would make you think there is a difference. Willy875, what page does it say there is no difference?
Cheers.

If you look at the details of the User Manual there is no difference between the 2 Camper models.

if you get a response from Tomtom customer service post the response here.

Not sure why as I don't think there's any way for you to discern a difference without opening the case and checking which GPS chip was used.

Im looking for an answer to this question myself and the only difference I can see is that gen2 dont have Eco route for fuel efficient navigation and is cheaper

On 1 or 2 you can select the fastest, the shortest, the most efficient.

Hi guys,
after talking to a seller of 1st Generation, it seems at least one difference is the connecting cable: 1st Generation has the mini-usb connector while the 2nd Generation has usb-c.
Would be good if somebody can confirm this.

Assuming we're still talking about the same thing (YA/YB/YC serials vs ZU/ZV/ZW), Discover/Expert/Exclusive, these ALL still used the Micro-B connector. As noted above, they're externally identical.

It wasn't until the next series (serials starting with B3/B4/B7) Navigator/Superior/Exclusive/Expert Plus/Camper Max, that USB-C connectors appeared.

Thanks for the comment. Funny, as the specifications on the websites where you can buy both generations mention explicitly USB-C. I wonder from where this confusion comes from.
Anyway, my 2nd Gen arrives today so i will comment back.

I think the confusion is related to the expression "Gen 2". I've not seen that expression used in any of the online TT documentation for Camper Max devices, only your manual reference. If it's the most recent version they're talking about, you just don't see a generation indication here:

Places like Halfords do talk about "2nd Gen", though. That you find here:

I can't tell from the Halford's ad which one they're actually selling.

All of that said ---

There are three different units that carry the "Camper Max" name. The first one (serial YC) was replaced by one with the noted small internal change (serial ZW). Perhaps that wasn't what is meant in that manual by a "Gen 2".

It's possible that the manual (and Halford's) refers to the third and most recent unit that carried that name (serial B7?) which does include a USB-C connector.

Hi guys,
so my (2nd generation) TomTom GO Camper max arrived and indeed it has a USB-C connector:

PS: the one I mentioned that I bought in the first post was actually a 1st Generation, which I sent back due to the missing usb-c .

Hi everybody,
I've been using already my Camper Max since a while - pretty happy about it. Some follow-up questions if somebody could answer to me:
1. I don't see any SD card slot, and hence I don't have any possibility to upgrade all the map regions, since it first tries to download it locally then replacing the previous version; in the user manual I find the very general statement that "some tomtom devices may have an SD slot card"; can somebody confirm if I should open the case and look for SD slot inside?

2. At some point when driving I press on something like the X and it showed a warning like "you sure you wanna stop the route?"; I usually press no, of course. But below there was a checkbox with "don't ask anymore" which I ticked. So now I don't have this pre-warning, my route just gets stopped, whenever I click the X button (by mistaking it with the menu one). Does anybody have an idea how to put back the warning menu?

3. My account password seems always empty so it's not connected via cloud to my account, which nicely allows me to set the destination from my phone then go to the car and have the route ready. It works after introducing the password manually, but for some reason it's not saved and I need to add it each time. Any hints what could the reason be?

Thanks in advance

Hello

The Camper Max does not have a slot to insert an SD card.
If you want to install another map from another region due to lack of space, you must delete the installed map and replace it with the new one.

In question 2, to find this option, reset the device to factory settings. Be careful, resetting erases your saved routes.

In question 3, is it the password that is on the GPS or on your Mydrive account?
