I am from Australia and am having problems downloading from Tomtom. Attempting to download Tomtom home results in this error:

An error occurred while processing your request.
Reference #99.a402e9dc.1255216016.2cc9e2dc

So I found Tomtom home on the CNET download site and instlled from there thinking this would be my only issue.

When tomtom home tries to update my One XL now I get a different error also related to download errors (see below). Is anyone else having a similar issue with updates at the moment or can you provide advice?

I should add that all other sites are downloading fine on my PC.

Replied to your other post. Are you by chance tring to download via a wireless connection? If so, can you try with a directly connected computer.

Thanks - yes I was trying via a wireless connection initially and thought that may have been an issue so I connected via a lan cable yesterday and re-tried. Same errors with the cable unfortunately.

I have an open case with Tomtom support but have had no response so far.

Still having no luck downloading updates via tomtom home! Can any other users in australia dowload updates and/or tomtom home software without timeouts?

I just downloaded a car icon via HOME as a test, no problems. I'm in Sydney with a wired ADSL internet connection.

Cheers,

See here.

Can all those who have problems ping download.tomtom.com, and post the IP that shows up?

I want to see if the akamai server is bad.

I have the same problem, i just bought a tomtom one 140 about a week ago and haven't been able to update a single thing, i couldn't even get HOME to download in the first place (downloaded it from a third party file site to get it installed) and home won't update at all, keeps getting the same message the original poster put up.

If i try to go to download.tomtom.com in IE i get the following error:

That is normal. Akamai sticks one server in each ISP's building. The server will serve up files based on what dns address calls it. So it is a facebook server, a chikka server, a tomtom server, etc.

I repointed to your IP, and tried the link and had no issues. So I don't think it's the server. There must be some .cab filter somewhere with your ISP.

Can you manually download the file here?

How about the pdf file here? If the pdf file is downloadable, it's definitely a ".cab" extension blocking issue since they're identical servers. Check your router and computer virusscanner/firewall config and make sure no activex restrictions/blocking is in place.

Thanks for the reply.

I can't download the cab file you linked to. But i CAN download the pdf file.

I also can't download this exe file:
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/application/releases/v2_7_2_1825_win.exe

Now i know i've downloaded exe files before... surely this can't be an ISP issue??? i've tried my local hardware, even factory reset the modem/router and turned off windows firewall and all anti virus software. I am pursueing it through my ISP as well (exetel in australia) so we'll see if they have anything to say. They wouldn't have exe files blocked though, i've downloaded heaps of .exe files in the past and recently.

Check your router config - there was a post a while back where activex blocking was enabled on the router (perhaps by default). If activex blocking was enabled by default a router reset wouldn't do anything.

You're not the only one reporting this, my guess is it's something at the ISP.

It looks like Exetel is the problem

I have had the exact same problems and I am on exetel as well. I think you hit the nail on the head so I logged on with my Telstra NextG card and I was able to download TomTom Home 2.7 without any issues or messages. I havent tried the new map download but I think the Exetel server/s is the problem.

Tomtom only hosts free stuff (like their applications) on akamai.

I believe their maps are centrally hosted in the Netherlands, so you should still be able to buy/update maps.

turns out this was a problem between my ISP (exetel) and the tomtom servers, which has been corrected by my ISP and all downloads and updates are going through just fine now.

Thanks for all the help is figuring out the problem.

Timeout problems in Sydney

I have just purchased Go 750 and am having similar problems downloading software through TomTom HOME - time-outs and thus failure to download maps and updates.

Unfortunately, much of the discussion above is clearly for those who know a lot of computer jargon, and far above my knowledge (and I'm not a elderly techno-phobe, I consider myself a reasonably competent home PC user).

Does anyone have some plain English ideas.

At the moment I am ready to return my TomTom as it certainly is NOT supplying me with the simple user-friendly features the salesgirl prattled on about.

Funny how the part of the TomTom HOME that took my $37.50 to subscribe to mapshare had no problems !!!

You don't pay for mapshare updates. Perhaps it was for map updates.

Is your computer connected wirelessly? If so, try a directly connected computer.

Also, you may wish to call Aussie support:

Much of the earlier discussion was around an error in a major Australian ISP, and how to work around it. From what I understand, that error was corrected. So if you're still having a problem it must be something else.

Phone support's probably you're best option. If your download times out, you can keep retrying it, as the download auto-resumes from where it left off.
