Last year on a major European trip my TT 550 kept turning off while on route saying it needed to download updates - these were speed cameras and electric charging points - could'nt stop it happening until i got home and ticked those updates , luckily a colleague has his working and the same routes but on my own this would have been a disaster - i did'nt want them to update by my phone as it was too much data while overseas ? any pointers - no updates showing required now

Disabling Mydrive sync on the device should resolve your issue.
so to be clear - this is done on the 550 itself - i just turned the sat nav on and although it says its updated those two updates are still sitting there and a extra map update - one of them is 5.82 gig Europe map - i had done this the other day when connected to the computer took 20 mins ish so it seems to be doing it again ?

Latest : So its updated and three routes i have prepared have transferred from the Route planner - but i could not find the place to disable sync with Mydrive ?

Do you update maps via Mydrive connect or via Wi-Fi?

To deactivate Mydrive synchronization it is on the GPS you must reactivate Mydrive if you wish to send a new route.

I have done this through wireless today but connected to the computer for power - ok i found the stop synching button thankyou so should this happen again i will do this -

if you update via wi-fi...
For updates you must connect your GPS to a smartphone charger not to your computer.
