I haven't seen this anywhere so I thought I'd mention it.
I have been creating a POI for a lot of restaurants for the L.A. area, most of which have been recommended on Chowhound, but I've never tried. Since the POI only shows two lines of info, I wanted to create a doc that lists all the restaurants with descriptions so that I could get more info on my choices.
I know other TTs have document viewers, and I was stoked to see that the 910 does too! I had to edit the menus using Skux's menubuilder and then I manually tweaked the resulting file to add this menu item I found at http://www.opentom.org/Menu_structure:
TASK_DOC_BROWSER
I then created a 'docs' folder in the root of the 910 and added my .txt files.
That did the trick, but some characters were all screwy. I ended up saving the docs I wanted to read in .txt file format and the encoding format (an option in the save as dialog) I found to be the least offensive to my 910 was "Unicode (UTF-8, no BOM)".
I hope someone finds this handy! I'm pretty sure I described all this correctly. BTW, I'm on a mac and the editor I use to save the files for viewing is TextWrangler.
In case anyone is curious, below is the content of my edited menu file. I managed to get the main menu items I use down to two pages, with two more pages for the prefs. Save it in to a folder called 'sdkregistry' (without the quotes) and put it in the root folder of the 910. To make the menu file, it's a basic .txt file with the extension changed to .mnu :
