TomTom Model(s)
TomTom GO Expert and TomTom (both Android)
My son installed TomTom (formerly AmiGO) on his iPhone.
The position shown is often 10-100 meters away from the real position. We checked other application that uses GPS, but the problem is only in TomTom.
Any idea why TomTom uses GPS differently?

@kacnje Are you talking about when you select a point on the map as your destination and then the app points to a slightly different position, this is a known phenomenon of how TomTom points to the nearest named building rather than an exact point

With the TomTom app, don't search for a place, tap directly on the desired location on the phone's map.

Sorry, my English is bad, and it looks like I didn't explain well.
The position on the map when he is driving. Maybe some navigation apps try to show a car on a road even if the app gets the GPS positions a little wrong.
But not the TomTom app on my son's phone. It shows off the road while driving. He opens three other navigation apps at that moment and all of them show his position ok (on the road, he is driving with his car). I was just a witness.

In the phone's permission settings, under "location access", did your son select the exact location?

Indeed. It is possible to provide any GPS enabled iPhone app with either "coarse" or "fine" location information.

Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → [App] → “Precise Location

Yes, the exact location is selected. We checked this.
The ability to snap your GPS calculated location to a known road is very strong, so if you are seeing yourself wandering about off the road, it's because the map data doesn't match the actual road location, or the GPS location data that the app is receiving isn't accurate enough.

We've even seen special athermic (metalized) windshields play hell with satellite reception, radar detectors, and toll transponders, for examples. Some models are notorious for this (BMW 7 series, Mercedes S Class, Audi A6, VW Passat, Tesla Model S).

You will need to perform some tests, such as opening the app outside your car and checking if the chevron indicates your current location.

Also, test the app in another car.

You may also need to delete the app from your phone and reinstall it, granting all the necessary permissions.
