Tomtom SD Speed Requirement (>= x66)?

All,

I was perusing posts on a differnet list, and folks over there claim that Tomtom requires that the Sd card support a minimum of 10 Mb/s read/write (x66)

Link is below - the 3rd post from the bottom is where it begins:

Can anyone here confirm or deny this?

A related question - would a very fast Sd card (x133 or better) give the Tomtom ONE even better response time?

Thanks - Joe

Read speed important (not write speed so much)

Once you have data loaded on the TT, it will primarily be used for "reading" data. The write speed isn't that crucial. Even the slowest cards out there have pretty decent read speeds; it's the write speeds that suffer. So with that in mind, I wouldn't worry about spending a premium on a fast card, esp. when there are many deals out there for 2 GB SD cards (e.g. ~$10 after rebate).

I could be proven wrong here but let me go out on a limb?
Technical Specs
? SiRFstarIII? GPS chipset
? 32MB RAM
? CPU 266 MHz
? 3.5 inch full TFT color LCD touch screen (320 x 240 pixels, 64,000 colors)
? Internal Litium-Ion battery (2 hours operation)
? Dimension: 3.8? x 3.2? x 1?, 6.5 oz.
? Operating temperature: 14?F to 130?F
? Bluetooth 2.0
Because it has 32MB of ram I would imagine the internal program will use it for cacheing. Knowing this I would highly doubt any noticeable degrigation in speed during the processing of the core system. But you may notice a slowness in the initial start of the tt one due to map access from the SD card. Getting a high speed SD card may not provide any noticable speed increase in normal operation. The processor used in the TT one is slower than other TTs but works well, and getting a faster SD will give you slightly faster map load time but nothing else. I would let price dictate the SD upgrade not the speed.

Any who here is my take on price.

TT One = $250 give or take
4 gig sd = $140
Total = $390
TT 910 = $370 - $420 (20GB and faster processor)

- Just my 2 cents

corrected

Just got fast 4Gb card for $46 and that inc delivery from USA to Europe.
There are several similar for around same price in europe.

I stand corrected on the 4Gb SD price... I simply googled it and posted the cheapest price that came up.

can you give us the link to the deal? I need a 4Gb chip for my Digicam...

I got mine, after recommendation by others, from 3c-expert on ebay.com. They appear to be Topram themselves.
For TomToms (and many cameras) you need a non-HC card
e.g. mine looks like this: item #320121279046.
The free SD card reader is ok but I didn't get a very fast results from it.
My Laptop's native SD card slot was much faster.
