reinstall application

OK I'm experiencing several software problems with my 540XXL and TomTom support wants me to reinstall my application software via Home. From what I've read its not advisable to use Home. My question, do I do an explorer backup and then connect to home to reinstall my application? If so do I cut the contents of the TomTom drive to a backup folder or do I copy it? Thanks in advance.
 
Well, what problems are you encountering?

To answer your specific question:
1. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.
2. Use Home-->Manage my Device-->Items on Unit and remove the application. Then, in the computer tab, remove application. Disregard warnings.
3, Remove the unit from Home using the Device Disconnect icon and restart.
4. Shut down Home and restart.
5. Connect to Home and you will be offered a new application. Accept and install.
