Go Discover / Camper Max 7" won't authenticate to Wi-Fi

I have just spent a frustrating 2 hours or so on the help chat, trying to work out why my Go Discover/Camper Max 7" won't authenticate to Wi-Fi ... any Wi-Fi. It have tried it on my home Wi-Fi, added a guest network, tried it via tethering off my 'phone, even taken it round to a neighbour's and tried it on theirs. It "sees" the SSIDs but refuses to connect to any of them. I have tried connecting in WPS mode and even tried temporarily disabling the security (on the Guest circuit) - nothing. It works fine with the BlueTooth tethering - but I can't use that for updating maps or the system. It used to work - but probably not for about a year. I have tried a factory reset and all sorts of recommended options but it looks like I am stuck with having to use MyDrive Connect via the USB cable for updates. Has anyone else had this problem?

To resolve a Wi-Fi authentication issue on your TomTom GO Camper Max 7" GPS—though you have likely already tried this—first delete the saved network in the settings, restart the device, and then manually re-enter the password for your router or hotspot.

If the issue persists, your GPS may have a Wi-Fi fault; contact TomTom to have it repaired.

Thanks but have tried those options earlier - apart from returning it to TomTom for repair.
