TomTom Model(s)
325 se xl
So i bought a 325 se on black friday and it messed up, and so i went to walmart and since i used to work there i knew how to cheat the system so i didnt use my receipt when i returned it and insted of getting the 89$ plus tax i got 119$ plus tax which came out to 130....went to go repurchase the 325 and they were selling them for 119, but online it was 89 for a silver editions, got my silver edition today a couple days in advance and it is better than my original, it came with iq routes and the black friday version doesnt, and the box or online didn't say i would have the extra sweetness.....i'm just excited

Since you used to work for Wal-Mart, let me ask you this. Why do you have to repurchase it.

The XL325SE I had didn't work after I connected it to TomTom Home. I tried the remedies from this board and nothing worked. As a matter of fact it got worse.

So went to Wal-Mart last night to exchange it. The lady just said here is your refund. I asked her if I can exchange it. She just said we have had alot of returns on that model. Thinking to myself. uh ok. So why can't I exchange it. She said I could go back to the electronics dept. and buy a new one. Uh no. Now it is more expensive than what I originally bought it for. In my own thought process, if they exchange it now that it is a higher cost, they lose on how much I paid for it vs. the higher cost.

Overall, shouldn't matter. If I want to exchange it, that shouldn't be questioned.

We got Danny Ocean here, you criminal master mind. I'm sorry to hear you used to work at Wal-Mart though.....Hope the GPS thing works out for you...

yea working for walmart had its up and downs i was in the oil change side so i didn;t have to put up with the bs, and to the poster saying about returning it...if u returned it then they should have said u could have gone back and got another one, even tho u bought it at a discounted price they would have to give you the other one for the same price and if not then get a manager and bitch alot and you will get your way walmart managers bend over faster than a 2 cent whore

and yes they do and don;t lose the money, they "claims" the product out which in most cases they send it back to the manufacturer and get there money back but some cases they ose the money....they usually lose out on the taxes no matter....

also figured out that the 325se silver edition online comes with USA, Canada, and mexico maps not just USA

Can you let us know the application version and map version of your "silver edition".

I was previously unaware of any Tomtom 325 that had IQroutes or Mexico. Although I know Tomtom makes special walmart-only models and this may be a new one.

App 8.145
64 MB of ram which the original only had 32
Map: 'USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P' v835.2419

did't notice the p so i guess it is puerto rico too

Edit:
And also it has different options in the menu such as:
Hide/show lane change which i a m pretty sure i didn't see in my original 325
Gas and fuel prices whch again i don;t remember, i know if i searched a poi using gas stations it didn't give me half as many options such as lowest price blah blah blahJust a lot i don;t remember i cant remember what exactly they were because it has been a week

Are you sure it isn't app 8.415?

If it's 8.415, it sounds like you got an XL340S, perhaps with a special name and color for walmart.

Just my 2 cents.

The plethora of models coming out of TomTom in the past 90 days has completely confused many of us, me included. I don't think any of us understand the features of some of the models our members are asking questions about, not even MVL, DHN or Mike Alder, all three of whom are some of the most TomTom savvy guys here. It looks to me like TomTom has a lot of inventory that went unsold this year and are simply renaming, sometimes adding a software package and shipping them out to companies like WalMart, Amazon, BestBuy, etc with no clear list of what the buyer is getting. It makes it doubly hard on moderators to figure out "why's and what's" when something doesn't seem to work like the buyer expected. I guess TomTom's attitude lately is if it didn't sell when we called it a 340 or 325, let's call it something new, put it in a different box and try again. There's just no clear indication of feature sets anymore based on where in the model line a new (or renamed) device falls. All in all it can lead to generic answers to specific model questions, or involved questions and answers to figure out what a new buyer really has. And how can a potential buyer figure out the best model to go with? Much harder to get problems solved or questions answered than it should be.

End of rant.

No rant, just an astute observation, Gatorguy.

It's like when TomTom seemed to name about a dozen different models a 'One' something. And, to make it worse, what was called one thing in Europe was called another in North America.

It's obviously frustrating when we mods can't help the users with their problems but it is getting harder and harder, as you correctly point out.

GaiterGuy, thats a very accurate summary of the current situation with model names and numbers, it gets worse when you include the x50 and x50 Live models (non Live models for countries with no Live services) even in the UK we have had specific models released via just one shop chain that had TTS loaded and working to add to the confusion.
The latest issue with the brand new x50 range and the latest map update that doesn't fit without users jumping through hoops (looks like this is affecting USA owners rather than European) but to have issued the 750 with 2GB of memory wasn't the smartest move IMHO, even the TT web site tech spec showed it as 4GB internal which was only changed to read 2GB as is fitted to the device after I pointed out the error - Mike

At least in the US, Walmart seems to be the only store that's been able to wrangle exclusive unpublished editions out of Tomtom. Seems fair given their size.

Others have exclusives, but at least they're fully speced out on Tomtom.com (although some are incorrect).

I agree Tomtom's making it a pain for us moderators, but as I posted earlier, it's the "mattress manufacturer" approach. If the model is truly "different" then price-match guarantees don't apply. I expect the stores give Tomtom prominent placement/advertising/promotion in exchange for exclusivity, so tons of models is how Tomtom responded.

Given Tomtom's #1 spot in online sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, seems like the approach is working, so we as user forum moderators/participants just have to be ready for it.

ps: I haven't been on my monthly Walmart drive/restocking in about a month now - I'll need to check out all the unique models they have there.

Not entirely accurate. Only one source I've seen mentioned TomTom with any sales lead. More reliable (and numerous) sources have shown the nuvi 265 to be the far and away the #1 pnd for the Holiday season so far, and Garmin taking 10 or the top 15 spots in model sales for on-line sales. Oddly not one single Go model appears in that list. As an aside, the administrator at GPSReview is in a unique position to see actual sales figures for online Black Friday. The report is here: Top 15 GPS From Black Friday GPS Review

i know in the walmarts around me if you go in they had the 325 se and the nuvi out on the endcaps still they have easily twice and many tomtoms left compared to nuvis, but i read the specs on the bocxes and i would rather have the tomtom

Edit:
But i am confused as to what i have because i thought mine looked different than the picture online and this is a 325 that i was buying
http://www.softsailor.com/reviews/1...ew-portable-gps-with-spoken-street-names.html

The only thign i dont understand is that it says it has 64 mb or ram and 17.2 free ut it says it comes with 2 gigs

The flash ram is 2gig on the 340, and 1gig on the 325

The dram is 64 on the 340 and 32 on the 325

Sounds like you got a 340, regardless of how it was labeled. Did the box say "silver edition" or "Iqroutes" or was it a silver one that Tomtom just mispackaged in a 325 box? If so, lucky you, although the 340s was available at target for $97 on black friday.

the box is a normal 325se and i guess they just messsed up and packaged the wrong thing...now that i think about it the box didnt have shrink wrap like it usually does just taped and yea target had a 97 dollar one but i only spent 96 with taxes so i win.....fail for walmart...

I figured something was wrong with the data I had seen. Are you sure Tomtom didn't win online and Garmin won overall (including brick & mortar)?

Yes, I agree about the GO models not selling well. Tomtom releases 6-18 month old GO models in the US. Without putting their best face forward here they shouldn't expect to sell well.
