I'm in the UK and my Tom Tom Bleeps a warning blast of beeps, the four digits bottom right under the bar chart thingy go 31/51 with a red rectangle round. Is this a speed warning, that you are breaking the limit? If so how does it work? I never load or enable anything. It doesn't do it every time I break the speed limit but enough to wonder what it is and how is it triggered?

Sounds as if it is indeed set to warn for travelling faster than allowed. Check your safety preferences to see if that is checked.

May also be a warning set for the speed cameras installed. I think you check that under plus services.

Are you sure you got the numbers the right way around? if it was 51/31 then I could understand why it was flashing red, the first number is your speed, the second number is the limit, it will trigger the overspeed alarm if you go approx. 10%+2MPH above the speed limit, your figures of 31/51 wouldn't be triggering the speed limit.
As for the speed limit, we don't have limits of 51MPH in the UK, this will be a MapShare correction that the device isn't displaying correctly (a long established and known bug). What device are you using? - Mike

Thankyou for your replies

Thks guys for the info. I'll check the safety settings and I probably got the red speed warning the wrong way round. Typically these warnings happen on 60mph county roads dropping to a 30mph village where you hit the brakes to get down to the 30 limit and there is a 30 flashing warning board by the road side. I have a rider V2 and use it in my car a lot. I have map corrections loaded and free trapster speed cams.
This speed warning seems to be very intermitant. What I mean is it doesn't always go off if you inadvertantly break the limit. It only seems to do it at specific locations. I think it's a good thing because I immediatle concentrate more and slow down. Do your UK tom toms behave in the same way?

Another thought.......do you have your safety preferences set to warn when near churches or schools?

I have been playing a little game while driving for years that avoids the beeps and flashing on the screen when going from 60 to 30MPH, the aim is to not use the brakes at all but be at the exact speed limit at the point you pass the limit speed sign at the side of the road. This takes a little getting used to especially as I drive a large heavy automatic car, only time you use the brakes is if going down a hill and engine braking alone isn't good enough to slow the car. Less wear on the car tyres, brakes etc but it also means I never get flashing speed alarms - Mike
