go 730
Just joined so I thought it polite to introduce myself. I'm a retired teacher who is pretty well past it really but I've still got a lively interest in all sorts of technology.
I've just bought a Go 730 and am presently struggling to set this up properly. Being very old and dim, I've just discovered that as well as subscribing to the Bluetooth enabled Traffic service I've also bought the RDS-TMC Receiver. As you may guess I'm not a happy bunny. Not that it matters much I suppose as I can't get either of these to work, so be prepared for many stupid questions in the near future. I will have to cancel one of the above I suppose but I did want the mobile/fixed safety camera data so I'll have to decide what to do.
Best regards to all members of the forum.

Welcome George to TTF.

Make an Explorer, not Home backup of your unit's contents. If not sure how, the info in this link will help.

One of our SuperMods, mikealder, is UK based and will probably see this thread (which I'm going to move to the 730 forum) and will be able to assist you with any traffic issues. He is also a moderator at Pocketgpsworld.com, which is a UK based gps forum. It offers a subscription series to speed cameras which apparently is much superior to anything that TomTom can offer.

While you are waiting for him to make an appearance, you might want to look at the info on PGPSW's camera subscription here. We get no compensation for suggesting that UK based members consider the offering. I know if I lived there, I'd subscribe in a heatbeat.

(p.s. in a former life, I too was a school teacher of 30+ years...........)

Hi George, Have you updated the map installed to your device since the purchase? - if you have I would like you to check the version installed, switch the device on and tap the sat strength meter (lower right corner) followed by the version box, the resultant screen should show you lots of information about the device, whats the MAP version number, 835 is the latest and if its a recent upgrade it could be the upgrade process has messed up the device.

If you haven't updated the device please press the sat stength meter followed by the version box and let us know what the Navcore version and the map version is that is installed to the device, it could be that your unit is running v8,001 Navcore which cannot see or use the RDS-TMC assuming its one that connects to the mini USB connector (I had the exact problem with another 730 only last Thursday with a chap at work!) - its easy to fix, but to point you in the right direction it would be best to answer the questions above, we will soon get you up and running as I suspect your issue is the latter one with the device running old Navcore but I might be wrong - Mike

Sorry to have been so long in answering but I've been away on holiday and am just back, Many thanks for your advice, I have made a back-up to my computer and updated the Europe maps but unfortunately before I could do anything else my screen failed. It became very dim and flickering so I contacted support and was given an interminable list of things to do before they asked me to return the thing which I have now done.
When it's returned I intend to contact Pocketgpsworld.com as advised and will see what can be done.
As usual on the forums, I'm heartened by the generosity and willingness to help shown by Forum members to someone such as myself. Thanks again.

A warm welcome to this forum. We will try to give you as many suggestions as necessary for your unit to work well.
