I have a new XXL 540S WTE. I want a female computer voice, which I believe limits me to Susan. Her pronunciation is quite acceptable, except for the word "Avenue", which she pronounces "Avenoo" rather than "Aven-you". She must have been programmed in the US rather than here in the colonies. ;)

Anyway, I tried two fixes described on this forum: renaming the cphoneme file and editing the hint file (av = avenyou). Neither worked. Any suggestions?

To fix that, go into LoquendoTTS file, Data file, and (for US users) the roadnrEnglishUS.lex file.

Do the following edit:
Where all the definitions are listed, CHANGE the lines where you see "av" and "ave" so they both show: "av" = "av en you" and "ave" = "av en you". I would also add a line, "avenue" = "av en you".

I think you may have done the above for ONLY the "av", and TT may have the address written as "ave" and picks up the old pronunciation.
See if that works.

Thanks for the suggestion... I tried it but it didn't work. It sounded promising though...

I may just have to get used to the American pronunciation, at least until I can find a female British or Irish computer voice !

The English computer voice (Jane) is no better you can't understand some of the pronunciation, or she says it that quickly it comes out as one slurred word

U.S. Susan does the same thing. I think they both go out for a pint .. er, a few pints .. together now and again.
