Android Auto Sidebar access non touchscreen

I have a Mazda cx30 with a non touch screen. How do I access the sidebar when given the option of a faster route etc?

Under the route planning setting there should be an option to select the faster route when available automatically.

Today I installed TomTom GO and tried it with Android Auto. AFAIK the "route bar" isn't accessible. So you can't click there to get more information (or change something).

Are you sure that when the application draws something (route bar in this case) it can't be controlled by it?
Response to route bar won't do anything dangerous that AA should limit it.
