Cuckoo Sound

We just returned from a trip to Germany where our rental car had a built-in TomTom. Periodically it would make a cuckoo sound followed by a "ka-chink". Could anyone help me with what it was trying to tell us?

Hard to say precisely without knowing what model TomTom was in the unit as some have different warning sounds available than do others.

Probably a warning near a specific poi category.

For example, on my 720, I've got it set for a moo sound from a cow when near a Tim hortons coffee shop. :)

Thanks! Now to figure out if we can remember what it might have been. I have a feeling it might be speed limit :)

Yes it is one of the sounds to warn of going over the speed limit. My grandkids prefer the moo. I think the ca-ching (how it sounded on mine) may be to remind you it might be costly to speed.

"cuckoo ka-chink"?

Sounds like an old Marc Bolan song!

(I'll get my coat....)

I also miss the cow warning sound of my 920 on the new 2535. Are you able to help me to find and install the 920 moooing sound on my 2535?
I would sincerely appreciate your effort.

There is a POI category for Rest Centers on Interstates.
For SWMBO I downloaded a flushing sound for my 930.

How do I configure he TomTom VIA 1605M RV to stop Kachinging/Cukooing at me? I'd look at the pdf file owners manual but I'm unable to right now on this device. For whatever reason, I think it's doing it as a traffic warning, because it will make the noise when I'm not moving. Sounds like a casino in my car!

Thank you!

Look at the safety settings-->Warn when near school zone (or wording to that effect).

Uncheck the option if currently selected.

On my xxl540, I go to Safety Preferences, make sure Warn when driving faster than allowed is checked, tap Done and you should be able to choose from 26 different sounds, click on to try it; you will be asked if that is the one you want, click Yes or No, and continue with the rest of the safety choices.

We are talking about custom sounds, not the packaged ones.

Are we?
The "Moo" sound was an original TomTom sound effect.

If @FortMyers is still around, I'm sorry I missed your post. I have all the original TomTom sounds saved as individual files. If you still want the "moo" get in touch and I'll send it to you.

Surprise, it is on my current 930.
Where are those hidden?

In my, when new, 2008-Jun-07 back up there are only the following WAV files:
airplane, arrive, camera, flash, horn, notify1, notify2, notify3 and restaurant.

Better read what I wrote not what you thought I said (just like SWMBO !!!).

Below is a screen print of my BU_20080908_before_ComputerVoice\TomTom-internal\sounds Folder:

Actually, all the original sound effects were all encoded into a single file - "data.chk" so a list of .wav files will probably not show all of the ones available in the menus.

Around the time of the x20/x30 ranges, TT started putting some of them into the sounds folder as .wav files too, but I never really knew why, as they were not necessary if data.chk was present.
They also didn't seem to add ALL of the sounds there.

Here's a complete list of what was available if you extracted the individual .ogg files from data.chk.

airplane.ogg
beep1.ogg
beep2.ogg
beep3.ogg
beep4.ogg
beep5.ogg
bell1.ogg
bell2.ogg
bell3.ogg
boing.ogg
bugle.ogg
camera.ogg
cow.ogg
cuckoo.ogg
flash.ogg
horn.ogg
notify1.ogg
notify2.ogg
notify3.ogg
polite1.ogg
polite2.ogg
polite3.ogg
restaurant.ogg
ringtone.ogg

I think those are what you should see on the selection menu on a GOx20/x30. Extra sounds called "warn" 1-7 and "attention" 1-2 were added later, for the x40/x50 models IIRC.
The three "Polite" sounds also changed around this time, I have copies of the originals and the replacements if anyone wants them.

I do not have a file data.chk .
I have, in the voices folder I have 11 files like data04.chk; data05.chk; etc., all with matching TLV and VIF files. All of them dated 2008-May-22, about a fortnight before I got the device.
Tried to open data04.chk with Notepad, Wordpad, Word and look inside with Winrar.
All displayed gobbledygook.
