please can some one tell me if the tomtom server is down as my hd traffic will not connect

The servers were down earlier this week (for Traffic) worldwide but came back up on Tuesday or Wednesday. I did see a post from someone else in your country saying his was back.

I'd call CS at 0800 980670 to get it sorted out.
