 I am so frustrated right now.

I had the voice recognition working on my 720 however I noticed every now and then when I hook up to TomTom Home and check for updates. The only update I download is the gpsfix or whatever its called.

But then when I go to use my TomTom the voice recognition icons are no longer working. I restore my device and they are working again.

Tonight I noticed once again the voice recognition wasn't working again so I came home and restored from backup.

Now I can't turn on my gps, I get a big red flashing X, nothing works. I have tried restoring to 2 different backups that I have and neither work. I have tried resetting.

I have previously owned a Mio168 with the IGO software on it. It has been an amazing GPS. The POI's on it are absolutely incredible, they are accurate, they show me business's that I didn't even know were there in my area. Unfortunately they are not marketed as much as Garmin or TomTom and aren't as popular. But trust me from someone that has had one, they are incredible compared to these.

I am taking this back and buying a MIO.

Thanks
Brian

Thank you Future Shop

Thanks to Future Shop.

I took back my TomTom 720 today and they refunded my money in full.

I have ordered a Mio c520,

Thanks to all you guys here for your help with everything and Good Luck.

Unfortunately MIO isn't marketed like TomTom and Garmin and it not as well known but I have tried them both and for me they do have some nice features but they can't beat the MIO.

For those of you who have never tried one, once you get used to them, again in my opinion they are a much better GPS.

Thanks Again
Brian

You should of tried it for longer then 1 day.

Once you get used to them, you would find that they are much better imo.

I have had one for about 4 yrs on my PDA. I have the TomTom Software on it along with MIO and when I compare the two on different routes the MIO is far better.

It appears that Garmin and TomTom have Mass Marketed North America so much that they dominate GPS. Everyone has one because they are so easy to come by.

The Mio you can do so much more with. I have just found a website where they are even converting there Mio C520 to a full PDA with so much more options then any Garmin or TomTom.

The POI in a MIO is incredible to any TomTom, and personally I find POI's very important to me. They are dead on, accurate, and provide so much more information.

Although the idea of TomTom allowing users to create there own POI's and Map Changes sounds good. I have found that it is terrible, they are never accurate.

My wife and I were looking for a new RV trailer, I typed in RV in my MIO and it brought up every RV dealer from here to eternity..lol. I then picked the ones that were within driving distance, optimized it for better routing, and we spent the day driving from one RV Dealer to the next. Simple. They were all dead on, they all had phone numbers, and we ended up buying a trailer.

You could never do that with a TomTom...trust me I tried. Firstly, it hardly had any RV Dealers, if it did, they weren't accurate, you could not optimize your trip. etc etc.......

Good Luck to everyone who owns a TomTom, they do have there purpose, but I do feel that they are marketed so much that everyone seems to just buy them. If you really honestly try a MIO and use it for a period of time. I think you will find that you will like them. Sure they don't have the connectivity for all of us to change maps, and poi's, but imo thats a good thing. Leave this all up to the professionals so the information is accurate.

Right now Future Shop has the MIO C520 on for $179.99 and for that price with all its features and the ability to now make it into a PDA product. There is no Garmin or TomTom that can compete with that.

Thanks
Brian

I even installed IGO8 and TomTom on it so now I can use whatever GPS Program I want when I want.

So much flexibility, and yes ChillyCat, All this for $179.99

Thanks
Brian

P.S. There is more to GPS then just Garmin and TomTom!!!!

I'm glad you got a unit that serves your purposes, Brian. Continue to report in here on a timely basis as to how it's all going.
