TomTom Model(s)
Android App
Hi, just wonder if anyone had this problem and is able to assist.

I have TomTom Go Android, installed on my car headset, the program works a treat but unlike other dedicate I use, when it gives direction and takes over the sound channel, it doesn't allow my radio to continue playing, just the satnav.

I have tried the various designs channels, but they all do the same.

Hi

This is its normal operation there is no other solution for the navigation voice is the radio to work together.

Thank you, that's s pity as I like the program, but on longer drives want my music on as well.

Check if your car head unit has a software update available. My Kenwood has no problems resuming the radio after Tomtom instructions.

hi guys, I use this thread because my problem also concerns "Android Auto" together with TomTom Go. And I couldn't find my issue elsewhere.

I just installed this Android Car unit and TomTom works fine. Except when I turn on the radio then TomTom still works but there is no voice and no warning sounds (like speeding). So together with the radio the TomTom makes no sound at all. My old system that I took out because I could not update the charts had a built in navigation system and the radio sound went down when the navigation "says" something and after that the radio goes back up.

I tried using all the sound channels in the TomTom settings like "Music channel", "Ring Channel" etc. but all I hear is a little cracking sound when it is supposed to say something.

Anyone have this issue and how to solve it? Thank you

I just tested Google Maps navigation and this works. Although the voice and warning sounds go over the Audio (radio). meaning the radio sound/volume does not go down. But that is not a problem for me. With Tomtom no sound at all, just a cracking sound when it is supposed to say something.

The original post in this thread states that the GO Navigation app is installed directly on a head unit. The app is meant to be installed on a smartphone to then use Android Auto. Where have you installed the app?

yes I have it installed on the car's head unit. It is also on my phone. But I am running it from the head unit. Just checked and ran TT leaving my phone inside. Again no sound, just a cracking noise.

So for you the TT sound works just fine when the radio is on?

Direct installation on a head unit is not tested by TomTom. Instead you should run it on your phone and use Android Auto.

yes. here you can chose the channels. I tried them all but doesn't make a difference.

So far I just used the "Android Head Unit" like a phone. So I downloaded the Apps on the Head unit itself. Also TomTom and the maps I need using Wifi.

So I am not sure how to use it otherwise yet, using the "Android Auto" App. Will look into that. I have "Android Auto" installed and was using it for communication with my phone. But I am not sure yet how to use TT from my phone on the head unit. Will look into it.

as I understand it now all the Apps on your phone should be visible on the "android head unit" when the Android Auto App is running. When I set up my "Android head unit" I did not see TomTom on there so I installed it on my car's head unit using the Play Store. Apparently this was not necessary, correct? With the Android Auto App I should see the TomTom app appear as well. But Android Auto was running and still TT was not visible on my car unit. Possibly I will uninstall and see if TT now becomes visible via the Android Auto App. Bit of a pain because I downloaded almost 5GB maps on my head unit. This is why I use TT because I have the maps on my system.

So on your car the TT sound is working correctly when the radio is on? thanks

The long you installed the app from Google Play it should show in Android Auto. Only if you install the app APK from a different source, Google will not support it in Android Auto.

And in case it helps, I published this yesterday: https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-gb/articles/15097767986450 It's not yet available in French or Dutch so choose UK when prompted, Belgium might return an error.

yes I installed the App on my car unit using the Play Store. I uninstalled it again and made sure that on my phone the Android Auto App shows the TomTom app within the "Customize Launcher" but the TomTom app did not show up on my Head Unit screen. Also other Apps like WhatsApp do not show up. Still I have my phone plugged into the car unit with the USB and Bluetooth is working (because I can make calls).

So I installed it again and now the voice also does not work when the radio is off  Voice was working earlier. Can't find others who also have this problem.

One does not need to install the Android Auto App on the Car unit as well, right? It was already installed on my Phone since I have Android 13. My car unit is Android 12 however.

Thanks for the link, will have a look

possibly a problem with my USB cable connection. I thought it was connected but only the Bluetooth label turns green. The cable stays greened out. My head unit has 2 USB cables going to it. One 4 pin and 6pin. I used the 4 pin for the dashcam and the 6 pin for the phone. But apparently it does not do any data exchange. There is power on it. But will have to investigate over the weekend what the problem could be

You need to install the GO Navigation app on your phone, not on the head unit.

thanks. Might be a USB cable problem because I do not see the Apps that are on my phone on the Car Unit. As explained the car unit shows these little logos for Bluetooth and the USB cable. The Bluetooth label lights up green. The USB cable label stays white. SO I guess it is not connected correctly via the USB cable.

Will figure it out later. Apparently the Android Auto App also can check the USB cable

No time today. Tomorrow morning a bit and then over the weekend

my Android Car Head unit has 2 USB cables. A 4 pin and a 6 pin. I just tested the 6 pin onto which I attach my phone and there is at least power on it. I ordered this cable: https://www.amazon.com.be/-/en/gp/product/B098DTBP29?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image Hope it arrives today as they promised.

so hopefully it is due to the cable who knows. I tested 3 different cables at home so maybe not. In any case I am not seeing the Apps that are on my phone on the head unit. And inside the Android Auto App I made sure that they should be visible 1) using the customize launcher. 2) Also in the Android Auto App I went inside developer settings and marked "Unknown Sources". The only other item that is marked is "Wireless Android Auto".

Will let you know if I got it to work once the cable arrives

Question without being connected to Android auto is the application working on your phone.
