Computer/tomtom connection

My computer will not connect to the tom tom.
I have been through the process and the tom tom is listed in settings, however, my computer will still not recognize the device.
I just want to update my maps for the first time in several years.

Does any kind sole know how to resolve my problem?

Just to be certain -- you are using MyDrive to attempt the update, and not TomTom Home, correct?

And can you clarify what you mean when you say "the tom tom is listed in settings"? I assume that it shows up in Device Manager?
