Number Enunciation revisited

Can anyone (in very simple term because I'm very simple) explain how to make my XXL 540 stop announcing 4 digit state route numbers as One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-nine. I've read the stick thread addressing the subject and tried the fixes there to no avail.
