With advent of lifetime maps/traffic, how will GPS companies make money?

Assuming that ppl don't run out and buy a new GPS every year, where will their revenue come from after the initial sale of the GPS unit, now that the trend is to offer lifetime subscriptions?

That's why they keep pumping out new models. also, the LIVE models in the States still require ongoing subscriptions ... no lifetime, yet.
