Why are gas station showing up on the map?

I have a xxl 540m and recently my display is always showing gas station icons. I do not believe it used to do this. I would like to know how to turn them off. My new via1510m also is showing gas stations. I would like to turn it off all so. I see discussions on turning poi's off and on but cannot find how to do it.

POI discussions were correct.

Let's start with your 540.
Change preferences / Show POI on map / {deselect "Gas station"}

Onward to the 1510
Settings / A couple of right arrows (2?) / Show POI on map / {deselect "Gas station"}
