what the differance between latest map guarantee and new updates?

So I bought 4 updates last Feb and my latest update was 8.55 but upon resetting my device back to factory stetting and then logging in to use latest map update TOm Tom informs me that my latest map updates has expired .. Guess it knows I bought the device Last September ..

BUT what about my updates I bought?????????

Should I just use the menu box for updates or for get new maps??
 
To answer the question in the title, the "Latest Map Guarantee" is ONLY the offer of a new map within 30 days of purchase (or 90+ days for models where they can't get it working in time!).

It's nothing to do with any map subscription you may have bought, they are dealt with in a different way as dhn describes.
