I don't need bells and whistles, 3.5 is fine and I'm not sure I even need tts. Yes I'm looking to not spend too much for my 1st GPS. But I think I need to make sure the unit has enough memory. All Garmins seem to have a SD slot but I'm reading that Tom Tom is a better product.

Thanks,

For US and IRE maps you really need to be looking at a 920, 930, 940 or 950 try the older 920/ 930 as they will be cheaper al these devices have a memory card slot - Mike

Well, you have options.......

A 930 has a card slot and comes with maps for both North America and Western Europe.

A 540 World Traveller comes with maps for both USA_Canada_Mexico and Western_Europe but no card slot

A 730 has a card slot but just North_America map BUT you can buy a map of the UK and Ireland for $80 US and install on a card (it may also fit in internal storage but it's a squeeze).

Both the 730 and 930 can take sdhc cards up to 32-gigs in size.

See more information here

I found a new 630 which has an SD slot for $161 at Amazon.
Does that sound ok??
Thanks

That'll work. Of course you have to factor in the cost of the additional map you'll need (and the sdhc card).
