Waypoint Tracking?

New to GPS units. I didn't originally buy my GPS to track off-road but was wondering if it has this ability. I would to be able to track were I have traveled via GPS and save the map into my GPS as well as upload it to my computer. Is this possible? I have a tomtom one xl. Any help would be appreciated.
