How do I use my Via 1505M for walking around?

Every experience I've had with that option has not been terrific. It will route you the 'wrong' way down one-way streets (compared to how autos can travel) but the icon movement is not precise in that you have to move at least four or five feet for the car icon on the map to move just slightly.

And there is the battery issue.....how long can you use the device without its being charged.

But.....nothing ventured, nothing gained, I suppose.
 
For starters:
Settings / Route planning / Route types / Always plan walking routes
However, as dhn says, it's not the ideal GPS receiver for walking. Perfectly useful pedestrian walkways and paths aren't mapped, and won't be used.
As you can see from my signature, I prefer purpose built handheld units for this kind of excursion.
